Thats my point. Oracle is stuck with me. Aaaargh!!!!

I’m still puzzled by your avatar though… is that Mary Poppins or a gay Janissary? :?

The figurine pre-dates the Jannisarry's GR by 250 years. The garb is a 'Tennure' as worn in the kitchens of the Zaviyyes, made of sheeps wool. I am sorry it is not as pretty as a 'Greek' foustanella', the king Oracle wishes to dress you in.

 I didn't know they had kitchens in the Zaviyyes! I think we GCs have a misconception as to what it is exactly... we call it a "ntsami" and assume it to be just a prayer place with a minaret. :?

It is a whirling dervish.

He doesn't seem to be whirling fast enough .... His skirt is too flaccid!

The 'skirts'/ Tennure was weighted down with lead weights to get that swirling/twirling effect.

Oracle please educate Unkie GR.

He is recalcitrant!

Lead weights huh? :? No wonder you can't get it any higher. The foustanella is always pert! 8)

Hi Oracle,

I have No problem in referring to Christofias as a President, as long as it is realised that Talat is his Co-President!

Two Presidents, Two States!

You see Oracle, and probably most of the GCs in this forum. We Turkish Cypriot have no problem in giving up a little for a Two State formula, we have no issues with saying "Okay, you can have that bit that was owned by a Turk many moons ago", but the GCs do not want a compromise - this is where I clash with GR.

He strongly believes that a solution will just suddenly materialise, Turkey will be forced out of Cyprus and that the TCs will not want Turkey as a Guarantor country. I would even go forth and say that I'm sure GR actually believes that Turkey will chose the EU over Northern Cyprus.

Wrong!

Turkey will plough through its EU process until the EU decide and realise how much they WILL Desperately, one day, need Turkey - and not the other way around. When that happens, the Status Quo will become very much a reality and GR will eat his hat.

Unless.....of course you bid for a two state solution before hand.

You must admit though Oracle, due to the Annan situation, the GCs really don't have much to maneuver with.

Take care.

You could call it a 'Monastic Kitchen'. Not a Mosque. Even though the Zaviyye was a place of 'worship' and excerpts from the Koran was recited, it was not a Mosque. The Order was the Mevlevi Dervishes of Rumi. The Whirling Dervishes of the Western world. They never distinguished between the 'peoples of the book. moslem christian, jewish or idolaters'. Every one was equal under the eyes of God and was welcomed to their Zaviyyes to worship. The method of worship was the Sema'a (the whirling and recitation from the Koran with the accompaniment of drums and an end blown Nay/Ney (flute).

For details Google it. Or 'YouTube' it.

Ofcourse you might be taking the mickey.

It's interesting that Oracle chose a whirling Dervish as her avatar. Isn't the Convent of the Whirling Dervishes in the northern part of the old city of Nicosia?

Thats right.

It is near the old surgery of the late Dr. Kutchuk and his newspaper 'Halkin Sesi'. Now a museum. In the back yard are samples of Ottoman period tombstones. Worth a visit.

I prefer to let my arguments speak for themselves. Nothing against those that do have one (an avatar that is), though.
