Parameters for a solution are clear !

The Turkish Cypriots Presidential Spokesperson has said that the parameters for a solution which were determined at the negotiations table cannot be changed with the manifestoes signed between the Greek Cypriot Administration and other countries.

Hasan Ercakica stressed that the parameters for a solution in Cyprus were made clear in the joint statements issued by the two leaders in Cyprus.
It should be known that the statements issued by the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias and other Greek Cypriot officials are not binding for us and the parameters determined at the table cannot be changed with manifestoes signed with others and with the statements frequently issued` said a written statement issued by Mr Ercakica.

He said that President Mehmet Ali Talat would inform both the Greek Cypriot Side and the United Nations about the Turkish Cypriot Side’s position on all these issues at todays meeting between the two leaders.

The spokesperson added that the views included in the manifesto signed between the Greek Cypriot Side and Russia, and those included in statements issued afterwards were affecting negatively the negotiations continuing between the two sides.

He said the manifesto was aimed at blocking all kinds of help that could be needed in the way for a solution from the very beginning. Complaining that the Greek Cypriot Side has been trying to present the Cyprus problem as an issue of `invasion`, he said `they also know it very well that we are discussing ways of establishing a new partnership at the table`.
`The new partnership to be formed will not be the transformation of the unitary structure of the Republic of Cyprus into a federation. This state will be a new partnership state that will be formed with an agreement to be approved by the two peoples at referendums to be held separately` he noted.

The spokesperson also accused the Greek Cypriot Side of trying to gain approval by the international community to its view that Cyprus has a single people.

`There isn’t a single people in Cyprus. There are the Greek Cypriot People and the Turkish Cypriot People` he noted.

Stressing that the Turkish Cypriot Side would continue contributing to the negotiation process, he said `the reunification of Cyprus, is an expectation of the whole world and a responsibility

PRESIDENT TALAT VOICED HIS DISSAPOINTMENT OVER THE MANIFESTO

President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that he has conveyed his disappointment to the Greek Cypriot Leader over the signing of a manifesto between the Greek Cypriot Side and Russia.

President Talat was speaking to reporters after today’s meeting between him and the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias.

The President told Mr Christofias that he was harming the negotiations process by trying to gain the support of Russia - a UN Security Council member - on issues being discussed at the negotiations table.

`With his current attitude, Mr Christofias has created a crisis of confidence and fell into contradiction with his own statements in support of a solution in Cyprus` Mr Talat added.

The President also gave an answer to Mr Christofias’ who has been arguing that the only problem in Cyprus was the prevention of the `legitimate government of the Republic of Cyprus from exercising its sovereignty in the North.

‘Besides the fact that it is not legitimate, the Cyprus issue is not this. We are in a situation that we are searching for a comprehensive settlement that will re-create a partnership state which was collapsed in 1963. It is out of question for the `Cyprus government` to extend its sovereignty over the North. The negotiations are not being carried out with this objective’ the President said.

Mr Talat also noted that there are two communities in Cyprus, and not one as claimed by the Greek Cypriot Side.

That's what Christofias gets for his idiotic move to sign a statement mentioning the word "partnership".

Next thing you know he will be asking for Talat's permission before he visits the toilet..

The Republic of Cyprus has never been an equal partnership and it will never be one, as far as GC people are concerned - because it is unreasonable and unfair for an 18% minority to have an equal say as the 82% majority. Minority protection and effective participation in leadership is one thing (which is the definition of "political equality" per UN), but full equality on all matters is another.
