Tassos remains stable

By Stefanos Evripidou

FORMER President Tassos Papadopoulos is in a “satisfactory” condition in hospital and has even requested a television to watch Cypriot football team Anorthosis take on the Germans in the Champions League tonight.

A statement issued yesterday by the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Nicosia General Hospital said that Papadopoulos, who has been in the ICU since Saturday, underwent a series of diagnostic tests and was now receiving the prescribed treatment.

“His condition is deemed satisfactory,” the statement concluded.

ICU head, Theodoros Kyprianou said the former president was stable and able to communicate fully with his environment.

In a statement read out on behalf of the former President and his family, Papadopoulos’ children expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the “hundreds of friends and compatriots who share our concern these days and express their wishes and love in every manner”.

“The wishes and love of all accompany our father and give him strength and courage to overcome yet another painful experience,” said his son Nicholas.

Asked how his father was doing, the DIKO deputy responded that he was in a “very satisfactory” condition.

The family also thanked the Health Ministry and the medical and nursing staff at the Nicosia General Hospital and the Evangelistria clinic where the former President received treatment from Wednesday to Saturday.

Good luck to our ex-President as he embarks on treatment for lung cancer, which has hopefully been diagnosed at an early enough stage, that our beloved statesman Papadopoulos, will regain full and long-lasting health.
