I will try to give an explanation as to my earlier comment, but firstly I would like to say that there are a number of people on this forum who do not understand history very well.

The person who says that Ellas has no feelings for Cyprus is a complete fool, Ellas means unity of the Greek speaking race world wide !!!
To say that Greece rejected Cyprus twice is partly true 1878 and 1915. because it was firstly trying to unite the mainland. In fact Crete was excluded from this first phase. Greece was offered Cyprus a third time by the British during WW2 but Britain as always did not honour its pledge.

Regarding my comment, it is clear that the TURKS continue to stall negotiations because it is not in their interests to see a united Independent Cyprus along the lines of the existing Republic. Therefore we have two alternatives 1) fight and try to throw them out or find a solution. I don't think option one is feasable for a number of reasons so the only alternative is an aimicable solution. Given that the Turks will never give up their Turkish identify we Greek Cypriots have a choice. I don't think that we can survive without financial aid. Where do you think all the money has come from that has increased the current wealth in cyprus ! Surely not from just tourism or our wonderful exports. It has come from aid and mostly from GREECE and yes Greek Cypriots living throughout the world, London, Melbourne, Geneva, Paris etc.... And by the way the only reason Cyprus got into the EU was thanks to Greece. So we need to unite with Greece in a full and transparent way not only when we need them.

The point of Sicily (and the region of Trentino Alto Adige), for those of you who do not know , it is part of the Italian republic but governed autonomously. We could be part of Greece but governed independently. It is another way of viewing the original guarantor settlement of the 1960 Republic of Cyprus.
