Is PrimeTel throttling torrent traffic?

Postby nikolasapl » Thu Nov 20, 2008 12:13 am

I have noticed that PrimeTel is throttling torrent traffic the past weeks.

Is it just me or PrimeTel is doing this in general?

Is there a way to cancel my 1-year contract with this stupid, crappy company, without being obliged to pay for the rest of the contract's duration?

is not torrent...is all traffic regardless the protocol. They said they will upgrade the line capacity by 10% byt he end of the month and 20% by the end of the year.

I normally find the internet part of the PrimeTel deal is the only bit that actually bloody works. Phone - crap. Cable TV - the box hasn't worked properly since last Christmas, every time they come to fix it, they tell me I haven't plugged it in properly, and then it packs up again two days later. Fortunately, since I have no great desire to watch Public TV of Armenia or similar tosh, I don't miss it too greatly.

It’s funny how some people rushed to switch to the competition once the market opened up only to find themselves moaning today of bad service! If the half state-run giant CYTA couldn’t satisfy your needs what made you think a pissy new company relying on CYTA’s equipment could do it better? :?

I understand your comment GR - I was new to Cyp around the time PrimeTel were doing their heavy marketing 2 years ago - they were much more eager to get business than CYTA and there was less time, bureaucracy and begging for some sort of service involved. If I remember right, I tried CYTA first but they were pretty unhelpful and demanded a deposit from foreigners. I don't blame them for that, but it did mean I went to PrimeTel.

I've also noticed that lately my download speeds are at times extremely slow. It seems the network gets overloaded.

I have a contract with them until March or so next year, but by the end of the year I will cancel my contract. What they told me when I signed up (I asked specifically because I didn't want to be with them for a year) is that all I will lose is my deposit which I think was roughly 50 Euros.
However, it seems that most employees in Cyprus don't know jack sh!t about anything so I wouldn't be surprised that by the end of the year when I want to cancel there will be a completely different story/procedure

Primetel has their own network I think. What I don't like in Primetel is that they require a contract for a year and that their prices are very confusing always giving some special offer for the first year and then having a much higher price after that! I hear cablenet is good but they are in very few areas :(
