The name change thing has always been a no-no with scheduled airlines. You used to be able to get away with travelling on a ticket with someone else's name (did it loads of times), but now with the heightened security invovled in flying, you have no chance.

Monarch charge a fee for name changes, surely if Cyprus Airways did the same, they could increase their profits and encourage more people to fly with them safe in the knowledge that if they have a problem then they could sell the flight to someone else and not be too much out of pocket.
It all depends on the type of ticket your bought. If you paid for "Unrestricted Travel" (Full Fare) then you would be able to transfer the ticket. If your bought a heavily discounted fare, then you have many restrictions.
