I'm afraid you are out of luck on that score BB

Nowhere better on God's good earth than the RoC on a sunny November Sunday with the smell of kleftiko wafting across the village. I've had a good mornings hunting with the Muhktar and my brothers-in-law, we never got a damn thing but the exercise did us good and the Muhktar was able to take the opportunity to somewhat apologetically hand me my annual village tax invoice, less than a third of what my tenants are paying in tax to Windsor and Maidenhead Council a month :D
Lunch as always was excellent in the village taverna and cost no more per head including drinks than it would have cost to eat a plastic burger and micro wave chips in one of Mr. MacDonalds 'fine' UK establishments

The cars are parked up unlocked as they always are, no ones pinched anything out of the garage and the local kids say hello instead of **** off you old ****

Cyprus is very pleasant, Thank You :P

Well done that man, you are no doubt a fine individual and nothing like the typical 'Little Englander' that everyone despises. Good hunting for next week!

The answer is quite simple, us Brits find most members of this forum to be unfriendly and uncouth with little better to do than spout off verbal garbage to new British forum members. Other than that the weather forecast on here is pretty good.

Regards Lucky Jim.

Well said Lucky Jim...........I can remember not so long ago when this forum was one of the best informative forums available to Brits thinking of making the move to Cyprus !!!! But now its content is more likely to put them off never mind they are probably doing us a favour in the long run...............the transition from the horse & cart to the Mercedes and BMW seems to have evolved too early !!!!

Highlander,

Good to see you back. I was actually thinking just the other day what happened to you and few others. Last time you posted a while back, you were opening a business in Cyprus, hence the fact you were not going to have too much time for the rest of us on the forum, and now you tell us that you have been back home in Scotland for the last 12 months.....so what happened Highlander.?

Also glad to see Niki back.

Hoots Man its Kikapu howz it going.............arrived 10th January 07 then left 31st Oct 07 had a brilliant time but got fed up of the dog eat dog eat cat too survival techniques of trying to scratch a living on the island...........thinking of coming back soon but probably just for a holiday and some unfinnished business.

How's sunny Dundee, Highlander? I know it (too) well.
Cheers,
Talisker

 Do you know Oracle? Did either of you ever run into her? I am sure she has mentioned something about Dundee somewhere on here!

or was it cake?

And how would they know if they had bumped into me? I am not the only Dundee cake guzzling, shortbread biccy munching, Clooty dumpling dining, Arbroath smokey loving foodie in the place!

.... and watch it if you say anything about my weight  .... the melons are turning back to lemons!

:o Well, the world seems to get smaller every day, so a chance meeting is always feasible - or they may already know you!

No mention of whiskey - not even if cake! By the way, I make mean shortbread!

You missed Haggis

That's because that is not food! It is the remnant of an autopsy. Same goes for white puddin' (and I am too polite to say what part of the [male] anatomy that resembles  ).

So you have never had haggis on Burns night

I had the honour of 'Toasting the Haggis' a 'few' moons ago on Burns night in bonny Edinburgh. A very enjoyable evening was had by all  :)

Thank You BB, I do not profess to be a fine individual or anything other than English, nor would I wish to be. I do however enjoy the finer things in life and thankfully undiscovered (by my compatriots and most others) Cyprus village life I count as amongst the finer things.

Threads of distaste for Cyprus and Cypriots from my fellow countrymen and others, if you will pardon the expression 'piss me off' just as much if not more so than they do the Cypriots and I suffer that well known English affliction of acute embarrassment on behalf of the author or authors. Not everything is fine in Cyprus or anywhere else for that matter but being a firm believer in looking for what is good in a place or a person rather than for what is bad I have found and continue to find Cyprus and its people in general very much to my liking.

As for the hunting, its just as well that there is an alternate supply of food otherwise the 'Suns' headlines might read
"Brit Dies of Starvation on Holiday Island", can you just imagine the anti Cypriot threads that would invoke?

I and other Englishmen/Brits of a certain type that I know wish you and your fellow countrymen well in your search for justice, its been a ******* long time coming.

Good Luck

I always cook it for hubby (and Co) and once tried vegetarian haggis which was a wholly unnecessary gesture as my napkins taste nicer :D ... But I love tatties and neeps, preferably creamed with lots of butter and coarsely ground pepper ....

But my favourite bit of Burns' night (after the delights of the recital and stabbing) is Athol Brose ... that is the heavenly pud! 8)

Never heard of this one - recipe please?

Is there a laird of Athol? I am sure that I met him a few years back. :?

Thanks Kikapu, I call in occasionally. :D

Yeah I know, but you don't hang around long enough to "talk" with you anymore.

Take care.

You will just have to attend our next luncheon Kipaku and then Niki will 'talk' honestly!
