How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

He said mortar training is always done on firing ranges away from the ceasefire line.(to avoid this type of cock-ups)
And he also said they are not even allowed to have the mortar guns facing south..the white UN helicopter patrolling the ceasefire line 24/7 would warn them immediately if they observed a mortar facing south.!!

Merhaba Iceman.

Has there been an enquiry and a court martial? If yes, what was the punishment?

There has been no public announcement from the army regarding the issue and civilian authority is in no position to demand an explanation from the military authorities..
All we know is that Mr.Talat apologized to Mr.Christofias regarding the accident the following day..

Thanks Iceman. I did not see anything in any press. I thought I missed the news. I suppose everything is hunky dory now. I am glad it wasnt the other way round. All Cyprus would have been 'invaded'.

Tim Drayton,

Ranges don't have to be in a built-up area to be a hazard. The range of an 81mm medium extended range mortar is 5500 to 6500 metres. I remember a rifle ricochet at Ash ranges in Aldershot in the 70's that killed a man about 3 miles away.

If you’ve got a spare, can you please fire a mortar shell on DT's 4WD? He wants to pretend it’s a convertible... 8)

They were lucky it wasn't a live round as it would have flattened the house and the neighbours houses. An HE round from an 81mm mortar can ruin your whole day.
