No I do not support Turkey to attack you for no reason, only if you are trying to force your will upon us and we have to ask for help, just like 1974.

If the one who is going to decide what is a "good reason" is you and Turkey then it is exactly what I said: Attack us whenever you see fit. Right?

While the correct way would be to have the UN decide if there is a reason or not, and what action should be taken. But as I said, you want to attack us whenever you see fit, and you want as to be demilitarized so we would be an easier pray. Right VP?

You can think what you want but no TC wants harm to come to any GCs, but if our hand is forced we have to defend ourselves the best way we can what do you expect us to do, wait for the UN like the Bosnians?

So you want to attack us whenever you see fit, and you want us to be demilitarized to be an easier pray. That is what I am saying too.

And we have seen the "no harm" you mean, by the 10s of thousands of Cypriots you have already butchered. You have always been the aggressors, the ones who started all conflicts in Cyprus.

Apparently your plan is to invade and butcher even more Cypriots, and that is why you want to be able to attack us whenever you see fit without any UN authorization, and that is why you want us to demilitarize, so this time you can attack us and kill us without you suffering any casualties.

was browing through this forum and found this thread about the mortar. Someone reported it as being 21mm when in fact it was an 81mm training mortar shell. (small explosive on it to identify the hit). The reaction from one of the posters was
What a shame a few more mortar rounds weren't fired into the south
I believe the individual is British!

Amazing! I was also doing some googling about this, and was on the same thread.

What concerns me more is that there appears to be no international news coverage of what, in my opinion, is a serious incident.

Total rubbish, once Turkey withdraws theres noway she will be able to intervene on EU soil and return, so we have to remove the temptation of either community using its army against the other. We do not want to kill anyone but if threatened we will fight for survival just as we have done in the past against the majority who had the upper hand.

I think you have missed the point that has been made here. In the British army this is known as an ND or Negligent Discharge (of a weapon). It can be a court marshall offence. Squaddies the world over are known for their fuck-ups. When on exercise they are always attacking their own side - blue on blue, and as for firing on the range, rounds are always going AWOL. If it's not that it's rolling trucks/tanks over in ditches whilst demonstrating Cypriot driving skill. Both TR/TRNC and RoC have conscript armies and this, combined with their natural Cypriot flair is bound to lead to incidents like this. Nothing more sinister should be read into this at all. Most of you guys have done national service and will no doubt back me up on this.

This begs the question of whether it is acceptable for an exercise of this nature to be carried out in a built-up area in the first place.

The north of the area where the incident took place is where my son did his military service.
He said mortar training is always done on firing ranges away from the ceasefire line.(to avoid this type of cock-ups)
And he also said they are not even allowed to have the mortar guns facing south..the white UN helicopter patrolling the ceasefire line 24/7 would warn them immediately if they observed a mortar facing south.!!

Merhaba Iceman.

Has there been an enquiry and a court martial? If yes, what was the punishment?
