Dodgy places?

Postby TonyB1958 » Fri Nov 14, 2008 12:02 am

I know I keep banging on about it on various threads in this site, but I'm moving to Cyprus soon, and I wondered, which are the dodgy places to avoid when choosing a place to live?
Bear with me...At the moment, I'm near Chester, in the UK, and I often think if someone was moving here with no knowledge of the place they would have no idea of the areas to avoid (of which there are a few) even though Chester is seen as a 'Touristy Choclolate Box Image' kind of city.
So, I'm going to be working in Nicosia, and I want to live near enough for an easy commute. Where should I avoid living?
Thank you.
Tony
PS Feel free to recommend Ace places to live as well.

Hi Tony,
Never mind the sarcasm, any where in Cyprus is good, the only dodgy place is this site.

I know that from the perspective of modern-day Britian it is very hard to conceive, but in Cyprus everywhere is safe. There are no equivalents of sink housing estates; no places where one fears to walk at night. It is a very safe and peaceful country with low levels of crime. You can decide to live anywhere in the Nicosia urban area with total peace of mind.

To be serious where you locate within easy reach of whereever you are working depends on lots of things such as:

are you single
will you have transport
do you want a house or a flat

but most important for Nicosia where the traffic is horrendous during the rush hour, is where exactly you will be based. Travelling from one side of Nicosia to the other can take an hour sometimes.

I am unaware of any no go areas in Cyprus. I am also aware that there are safe areas in the UK as well, Tim you need to travel more in the UK and possibly realise that not all areas feature housing estates and ner do wells.

Good luck. If I were working in Nicosia I would look to live there or maybe even Larnaca

Hi Tony.

I live in Larnaca and drive to Nicosia every day. If I go somewhere like Latsia for my first job, it takes 25mins to get there. If my first job is in Pallouriotissa, then around 50mins.

It all depends on what you are after in your social life. If you want beaches, then you are better of in Larnaca. Posh winebars and coffeeshops are in Nicosia.
