Satellite map of Cyprus

Postby Tim Drayton » Thu Nov 13, 2008 10:21 am

I don't know if this has been posted before, or if most people are aware of this anyway, but the following link takes you to the Google earth satellite map of Cyprus:

http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/m ... cyprus.htm

You can zoom in to get a very high resolution image on which all buildings and trees are visible. I have studied the image of my own neighbourhood and, judging by the buildings which are present and absent, I conclude that this picture dates from 2-3 years ago. For me there is simply a boyish pleasure in getting an aerial view of places that I know well, but I can imagine that for some people here this may enable them to inspect the current condition of property to which they no longer have access.

You get a slightly higher magnification with GoogleEarth and you can add your on placeholders to make it easier to find places again.

You can also email the placeholder files to your mates so they can go directly to the location you have marked. Quite useful for giving directions.

Agreed. But you have to pay to subscribe to Google Earth, don't you? This map is free.

GoogleEarth is free Tim. But I think there is an advanced version which for might be a subscription. I dont know details as the normal Google Earth is sufficient for my needs.

Does anybody have any experience of pet tracking collars that work with Google Earth? Are they reliable? I would feel happier about letting my cat out if he had something like that.

But will it stop the shotgun toting hunting fanatic? :?

The answer is No on both accounts Tim.

Google earth pictures are static / not contemporary (there is a better term for it, I am sure). They can be up to a year or two old other wise they would be 'spies' newest hobby for tracking military movement accross the planet.

Tim did you just discover Google maps? Have you been in a coma for some years? ;) Here: http://maps.google.com/ you can go anywhere you like. Here is a link directly to cyprus Google Earth has a free version which is all you need most times but if you want to connect a GPS device on it for tracking then you will need to get the paid version.

I had heard of them, but this is the first time I have actually seen one. Sorry if I am posting something that seems obvious to most people.

Just had a look at Yermasoyia dam as it was a couple of years ago - full of water. Now that is a wonderful sight.
