Avcı has called on the European Union to put pressure on the Greek Cypriot Side on the Cyprus issue.
Avci’s call came during his visit to Sweden which is to take over the next Presidency of the European Union.
Deputy-Prime Minister - Foreign Minister Turgay Avci has met with Swedish Foreign Ministry Head of Europe Department Hakan Emsgard and his Deputy Lars Wahllund.
Mr Avci, who is in Sweden, briefed the Swedish officials on the latest developments concerning the Cyprus issue.
The Foreign Minister underlined the need for the European Union to put pressure on the Greek Cypriot Side towards a solution in Cyprus.
`The Union should put pressure on the Greek Cypriot Side by saying that this is the last chance for a solution` he said.
Yesterday, Mr Avci visited the General Assembly of the Administrative Province and Mediterranean Museum in the capital Stockholm.
During his contacts in the city, he called on Turks living in the country to explain the Cyprus cause in Sweden.
Mr Avci expressed the importance of the lobbying support that could be provided by nearly 100.000 Turks living in different parts of Sweden.
Pointing out that Sweden will take over the EU term presidency as from July 2009, Mr Avci said he would have an opportunity during his stay in the country to express the Turkish Cypriot People’s expectations from the European Union in the new term.
As part of his contacts in Stockholm, Foreign Minister Avcı will attend a panel organized by the Federation of Turkish Workers’ Associations of Sweden where he will deliver a speech.
