Sadists ....

Merely stating the facts of the case. I don't take any comfort from it at all.

Did any of his hunting friends file a complaint?

I personally don't get the whole Cypriot attitude to dogs. Baffles me every time I visit? Perhaps they teach them at church that the only life preserving is that of a Cypriot male ;)

Stupid Brits and their animal fixations. There are children starving, dying and being abused all over the world and you do absolutely nothing about it, but the minute someone runs over a stray cat you're up in arms.

You need to realise that taking an animal into your house, giving it a name and trying to infuse it with a 'personality' and human traits does not make it a substitute for human beings. It's just one step up from talking to yourself.

You might also consider that while some animals are killed in ways that appear barbaric and horrific to you, there are innocent and vulnerable PEOPLE being killed in far worse ways. You might want to take a look at the history of Cyprus and some of the atrocities carried out during the Turkish invasion sometime, though those of you that are low enough to buy houses in the 'TRNC' and are happy to go shopping and gambling over there obviously don't have any concept of moral decency.

How anyone can criticise Cypriots for the way they treat animals is an absolute joke. Take a trip to a proper Cypriot village (not one manufactured for Little Englanders with an over-inflated idea of their own importance) and you'll really see how people treat their animals.

If some idiot's cat or dog gets poisoned then maybe you should think about what would drive a person to do that to start with. It's not like anyone gets up in the morning and decides to poison their neighbour's pets for a laugh. Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone appreciates having your animal wandering around their property like they own the place or your dog barking at all hours of the night? Just because some people choose to have pets (and usually one cat or dog is not enough for these idiots) it doesn't mean that everyone else should have to deal with it.

As for those that get run over, then that's clearly the owner's fault. You wouldn't let your kid wander around the streets or highways aimlessly (well maybe some of you would) so why let your pet do it?

Blackbolt....

Stupid Brits and their animal fixations...? Brits are not the only nationality who like animals as pets.

How do you know that animal lovers do nothing to assist children who are starving and dying..?

What do you mean....if someone runs over a cat we are up in arms..? I'm sure most cats which die on the roads are the victims of an accident. Unfortunate bad luck for the cat. If someone ran over a cat delibertely then.... yes I would be up in arms.

I am sure there are some pet owners who try to, infuse as you put it, human personality traits into their respective pets. I am also sure that those people are in the minority and in my experience most pet owners treat their animals with common sense. Yes a dog is a dog and a cat is a cat....if we enjoy their company and spending time with them....whats wrong with that...?

Yes I am sure many people in this world are dying horribly....does that mean that if I should see someone being cruel to an animal that I should just turn a blind eye to it, ignore it and not speak out against it...?

I've been told by more than one person, ie Greek Cypriots, that Greek Cypriots also carried out attrocities against Turkish Cypriots.

Every nation in the world has a minority of people who are cruel to animals, thats a sad fact of life. If we see someone ill treating an animal should we not speak out against it..? Whether it be in Cyprus or the UK or Australia..?

I live in a proper Cypriot village and the majority here treat their animals well...however there are a few who do not and I should think thats the case island wide.

I disagree with you...there are some people around who get up in the morning and decide to poison their neighbours cat/dog because in some way that animal has upset them. Now rather than poison the unfortunate creature why not do something more civilised...like make a complaint to the local council office.

So, according to you, someone with more than one dog is an idiot..! Well I must be totally off my head 'cos I've got six.

Most people I know do not let their dog wander aimlessly around the streets and other peoples property. Most of the dogs and cats that get run over in Cyprus are strays and not someones pet. The majority of pet owners take good care of them and keep them under control...so stop trying to make out that we are idiots who have a total disregard for any inconvenience our pets may cause.

And finally...if as Oracle suggests...you are a member of the new generation of super Cypriots...all I can say is God help us...!

"Some village women keep chickens, and they get (and rightly so) angry when they lose their stock. Other people get angry when rubbish is strewn all over the road. There is a pack of dogs in Kyrenia which use one of the main roundabouts as a "resting place" and cause absolute chaos when they decide to move on. "

Tess you finally point to a cause.

During the British rule every sizeable town had a dog catcher and pound, just like towns in England do now and similar procedures were followed.

Dog catchers are a no-no with the animal crowd. Some go as far as to use outright lies about what happens with stray animal management in advanced countries. Until we face the situation realistically the government will do the easiest thing, which is nothing.

I have a dog which I spoil rotten. But there are rules about harassing people, especially children, and definitely no bicycle and motorcycle chasing. As a cyclist I have often been put in danger by dogs. It is not funny.

Connor you are becoming hysterical!

But six dogs ... man are you mad? And all those donkeys? Cyprus is such a small Island. You have to consider the flora to fauna ratio!

Do you not realise dogs were created by man for no other reason then companionship and warning when someone was at the "door"?

Foolish habit in this day and age of over-population and droughts to keep so many animal for selfish companionship.

Do you know how how much of a blight they are on fresh water resources?

Yes don't be cruel to animals! But keeping them as pets in the first place is a type of cruelty in itself!

Stop anthropomorphisising
