Dogs

I love running.

In Cyprus it has it's own problems.

Might as well be invisible.

Just watched the one show on BBC1 about dangerous dogs attacking people.

All dogs are dangerous.

I was running in the hills around Polis in the Arkaga region passing a village house that had a Rottweiler in the garden.

The house was to my right and elevated.

As I ran past the house the dog decided he did not like me in his space.

He leaped out of his garden to attack but forgot that he was still attached to his chain. He flew through the air and then the chain brought him up short. He was dangling head down and probably about to die.

It was very funny. A huge dog dangling on the end of a chain over a garden wall!

His owner ran out and gave me a volley of abuse.

I have been attacked by dogs many times. The owners always say don't worry he is friendly. Right!

I can most times kick a dog that wants to have a go. I did this once with a particulary nasty dog who refused to go away whilst I was running around Coate Water ( a local beauty spot) I had to give him a sharp kick in the ribs.

His eldery (female) owner went absolutely berserk calling me a f*****g
c**t and a coward for kicking her little darling.

Just think I am a big hard man but if your little darling dog decides to attack a child the outcome could be very different.

Remember dogs are animals.

Am a great dog lover and have had them all my life but I concede that virtually any dog has it in him to display a nasty streak. Running past a dog is akin to waving a red rag to a bull...the wolf instinct comes out and the chase is on..... Oh boy live meat...!

As much as I love em I agree..any dog you are unfamiliar with should be treated with some caution.

Have noticed that the dog who barks and barks and barks as you pass by is not really too serious a threat...he's nervous and probably quite cowardly. The one's to watch are those that are silent save for a low growl...what might follow is the silent attack..Anyway...am off to give my Retriever a goodnight cuddle...

Nothing to do with Cyprus Living. They love their little darling dogs.

Just a general observation about dogs and their irresponsible owners.

It's not the dog's fault it's the owners.

I used to run a lot in Cyprus and never once experienced the problem you describe. Unlike in the UK when I quickly learnt that you should not run too early in the morning due to all the vomit that has not been cleared up from the night before.

Besides, you should be swimming to keep fit! :D

All of Cyprus is a nice area  ... and the occupied section will be one day also!

The sad thing is I live(d) in one of the BEST places in the UK and yet the vomiting post-evening-out culture left its mark all over town!
