There has been a similar debate regarding the Elephants in Kruger national park for some years...Some people have claimed that there is overpopulation and at the present rate of new births the parks biodiversity would be degraded to such an extent that it would never recover. They suggested culling 13.000 Elephants. Others claimed that left alone natural selection would ensure the survival of the fittest animals and keep the gene pool strong. this happens in other parts of Africa.
This Debate has been going on for years without any final conclusion being agreed on or action taken But the park biodiversity is still intact and the elephants are still there. Just sometimes maybe we dont know all the answers.?
Svetlana.
the point i was making was although the bearskin use was a longstanding tradition (as someone else pointed out) traditions and customs can be changed as we supposedly become more aware of their impact.
I have recently seen film on British tv of Russian hunters seeking out hibernating bears and shooting them..which shows the other side of the coin - how low can mankind sink to destroy things because they are there.
Good post BOF!
