Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

There has been a similar debate regarding the Elephants in Kruger national park for some years...Some people have claimed that there is overpopulation and at the present rate of new births the parks biodiversity would be degraded to such an extent that it would never recover. They suggested culling 13.000 Elephants. Others claimed that left alone natural selection would ensure the survival of the fittest animals and keep the gene pool strong. this happens in other parts of Africa.
This Debate has been going on for years without any final conclusion being agreed on or action taken But the park biodiversity is still intact and the elephants are still there. Just sometimes maybe we dont know all the answers.?

Svetlana.
the point i was making was although the bearskin use was a longstanding tradition (as someone else pointed out) traditions and customs can be changed as we supposedly become more aware of their impact.
I have recently seen film on British tv of Russian hunters seeking out hibernating bears and shooting them..which shows the other side of the coin - how low can mankind sink to destroy things because they are there.

Good post BOF! :D

"Others claimed that left alone "

This is the fallacy so meticulously cultivated by the eco fascists. By definition things cannot be "left alone" with 6 billion people on the planet. We are an intrinsic part of the process. We are natural too. These misanthropic idiots would have you believe that we do not belong on Earth and spawn theories like the "voluntary human extinction movement". It is interesting to consider that the Finnish student who committed the latest school shooting came from a family committed to these extreme views.

Now as to the hibernating bears. Why would they kill them in hibernation and get skins which have diminished value, since the coat is not at its best. Why not wait a few weeks and get a prime and therefore expensive pelt for the same effort and expense? Something does not add up in these so called documentaries.

An interesting view of the ecological movement, especially its extreme side, can be found in the web writings of Frank Furedy, professor of sociology at the University of Kent.

nikitas maybe i didnt explain myself properly.
with regard to the Elephant debate i was referring to the scientific debate by renowned people, not activists. there is a thread on SANparks Forum under Elephant indaba and Elephant Culling the debate that sets out the situation.
I am going back there myself in Feb so it will be interesting to see what changes there have been since my last visit.
Its the southern states that want to use culling to keep numbers down.
East Africa does not cull but leaves things to Nature. but these animals are not fenced in, the Southern ones are.
you pays your money and takes your choice..

If you wear fur be prepared to have paint thrown at you! There is plenty of beautiful fake warm clothing out there that does not mean an animal has been killed, may even have suffered as some are skinned while still alive, just for a fashion accessory.

PETA, and the like, raise their ugly heads!

Animals should have more rights than humans!

I like animals, but they are animals!
