I came across an invention which seems to solve the water problem and the watering of plants in times of general water shortage.
It is a water retaining gel you mix in with the pot soil, or even your garden soil, and it limits water use by 70 per cent. Which means you can water your plants once a week rather than every day and would make a big difference in summer.
Is there such a thing in Cyprus? I am going to test it this week and verify for myself if the claims are true.
Apparently this water retaining gel was first used in plant cultivation by Greek professor Kallistratos, dean of the Ioannina Medicine Faculty, who was also involved in the study of cultivation methods in addition to his considerable medical work.
