Tell Miltiades his Club is growing fast...I will be the caretaker in his absence, but he should hurry back... :)

I am sure he is reading these lines already. He might listen to you.

In that case I will appeal to him directly:

Dear Miltiades, If you are the President of the True Cypriots Club you should come back and preside over Us...Because if you abdicate and I take over as President I will order you to come back!!! :D

As far as I know,Nikitas,Ataturk only mentioned Cyprus once in his extensive writings and speeches...Something to the effect that Cyprus is important and people should keep a close eye on her...Ataturk would have had to agree to Ismet Inonu's formally signing Cyprus over to the British in 1923....Turkey gave very little thought to Cyprus till Menderes was dragged kicking and screaming into the situation by the British and the USA mid 50s....

Ataturk worship has been very strong amongst the TCs since the formation of the TMT in late 50s...I remember celebrating all the Turkish national days including 10th of November, at least since 1960...

Two Turkish academics have lodged a complaint with the public prosecutor against the director of a recent film chronicling Ataturk's life on the grounds that the film depicts the latter as a chain smoker and heavy drinker, and this is an incorrect role model for Turkish youth.

Bodosakis, a hotel owner in Istanbul, described how Attaturk sat one night and finished several bottles of champagen, wine and brandy and seemed to get more sober as he drank. The mans drinking is well known and documented. His smoking is news to me.

So how are they going to clean this aspect of his image? Buy up the copyright to all books, interviews, etc and then buy up all copies of books? Sounds a tad stalinist.

Don't worry  I'm proud to be Cypriot.. I did not realise how much damage they did to our island :? until I went to the occupied area recently.. and Turkey tells many lies to brain wash people..

There will be a protest against the occupying army in London soon. Many people - all Cypriots (mc, gc,tc).. are going. I hope it will be crowdy. Let people know our cause. Free Cyprus.

But, I doubt anything will be achieved.

PS. to the poster of this topic.. Did you realise this was a CYPRUS forum? NOT a Turkish forum. Turkey has done enough damage to Cyprus already.

Nikitas,I read recently that when he was President, Kenan Evren, the military coup leader of the 80s, ordered that a lot of really priceless archival material regarding Ataturk be destroyed because it didnt reflect well on the great man. It apparently included memoirs of Ataturk's private secretary whose name escapes me now... :(
