This is a direct quote from today's Politis newspaper regarding Mr Talat's proposals for the a solution:
"The TC side transfers to the component states functions, which if accepted, will render them stronger than the federal government and will cast doubts on its sovereignty, to wit:
The Flight Information Region (FIR) control will be a function of the federal government but Mr Talat wants it delegated to the component states. His assertion is that this is the situation now and the existing air control authorities must continue to fucntion.
The two component states will have internal nationality, something also proposed for the elections for the lower house of representatives.
The TC side also wants ownership of archeological sites, telecommunications, airports and ports.
It also wants two central banks, double regulataory authorities for the economy, labor, law of the sea application by the component states and double representation in the EU."
It seems like Talat is setting the stage for a final break from Cyprus. It will be amusing to see what the EU replies to the idea of each federal component state having its separate representation in Brussels. Something that no other federal state in the EU has ever demanded. This is something the EU will not accept even if the GCs accept it unconditionally.
Some will say that these are maximalist demands and that they are meant to be tempered in the negotiation process. Well these people are mssing the point, which is that the demands were made in the first place, a fact which points to a state of mind and a perception of what Talat wants to achieve.
Bananiot, please enlighten me one more time, what is the difference exactly between BBF and partition? What is better in this view of BBF than what we have today?
