People are much richer today than what they were 10 years ago, but they are not happier.
The key to happiness is
relationships and not necessarily having a lot of money.
Another important aspect to happiness is being satisfied with your achievements. Mental stimulation and personal growth are also important.
Success can be measured in a variety of ways, as being content in one's life is different for everyone. For some it could mean being rich and for others it could be having a successful career. For few it may mean having good relationships.
Being flat broke however does not assist anyone being happy, but happiness is still possible.
The rat race can also be drag in western society. Many people are working themselves into the ground and spending less and less time with family and friends.
