No... but if I wanted to find out about such things I would visit web sites dedicated to the subject...

Well I do not happen to believe something as fundamental as freedom of speech has to be restricted to a "dedicated" website (although I agree it deserves dedicated attention), and be excluded from everyday discussion because it tires someone's brain out to talk about more than Chlorine sources for one's swimming pool!

.... But to make this topic more Cyprusgrump friendly; where would we be if not for Science, but swimming in germ ridden pools

Happy now, Grump dear

It is a tiresome shame that your concerns about freedom of speech and other such issues is restricted to Turkey...

Well now you have flipped into over-generalized whinges  .... My concerns are many, but on this forum the Turkey/Cyprus/Greece/UK/US are the main countries of interest (for reasons I know I do not have to spell out to you).

Now if at the present time (and these are highly topical and of the moment) there is more media attention because Turkey is systematically banning left right and centre (cue for CopperLine to blow a fuse!), then there is ample rich fodder for easy pickings.

However, I would not moan if someone wrote about Tibet or The Democratic Republic of the Congo, for us to discuss ... so why don't you go ahead and enrich us .....

Would you moan about Scotsmen wearing skirts/kilts??

No I love hunky men in Kilts and the whole Tartan and Clan culture. I also like the Greek Evzones and the Cypriot Vraka ... But so what?

Why don't you start a thread?

Because I don't think anybody here on the Cyprus forum would have the slightest interest...

If they did have concerns about the 13 y/o Somalian girl stoned to death for being raped, etc. I would guess that they are discussing it on a more appropriate site...

Now you are looking for a cop-out.

Tell me why a discussion on current restrictions, presented in the British press about Turkey, are irrelevant to an English-speaking Cyprus forum .....

Well that's not true one little bit.

If it seems overwhelmed by TC/GC debates, it is because we have a large section on the Cyprus Problem and a large Politics section etc. Plus Politics is the backbone of civilisation and very much part of a normal daily debate regarding most matters.

Have you sold your weights machine yet? :D

Okay...

My perception is that the forum seems to descend into GC/TC acrimony all too frequently. Much more so than it used to. Perhaps I am alone in that and everybody else is happy with the board at the moment...?

IMHO the forum is under-modified - I think the mods and admins need to move or split threads that descend into heated arguments about Cyprob. There is a place on this board dedicated to Cyprob.

When I have been moderating I've always used a very simple rule about what I allowed or disallowed on the forum: -

"What would a brand new poster think if they logged-in to this forum for the first time today?"

In the case of this forum it is now all too often Turkey bashing and acrimonious TC/GC mud slinging.

Just IMHO of course...

And no, I haven't sold the multi-gym yet... :(
