Its high time Greece faced up to her responsibilities…

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Its high time Greece faced up to her responsibilities…

Greece started the trouble on Cyprus…

“A coup d'état in Athens in November 1973 had made Brigadier General Dimitrios Ioannides leader of the junta. Rigidly anticommunist, Ioannides had served on Cyprus in the 1960s with the National Guard. His experiences convinced him that Makarios should be removed from office because of domestic leftist support and his visits to communist capitals. During the spring of 1974, Cypriot intelligence found evidence that EOKA B was planning a coup and was being supplied, controlled, and funded by the military government in Athens. EOKA B was banned, but its operations continued underground. Early in July, Makarios wrote to the president of Greece demanding that the remaining 650 Greek officers assigned to the National Guard be withdrawn. He also accused the junta of plotting against his life and against the government of Cyprus. Makarios sent his letter (which was released to the public) to the Greek president on July 2, 1974; the reply came thirteen days later, not in the form of a letter but in an order from Athens to the Cypriot National Guard to overthrow its commander in chief and take control of the island.”

…yet they were never prepared to militarily confront Turkey despite clear warnings from all that their maneuvers were nothing short of catastrophic, so what was the point of this stupidity which ended up enslaving 37% of Cypriot territory?

These spineless cowards made a complete mess of Cyprus and run away as if nothing had happened and three decades on Greece now even pretends that there’s no problem on Cyprus and has even started parlaying with Turkey to safeguard “her” interests!

The Greek spineless cowards even had the audacity to endorse the AP which clearly partitioned Cyprus!

Its high time Greece faced up to her responsibilities by compensating the Cypriots for her stupidities as she has been let off the hook far too long.

Greece should therefore take ACTION to undo the trouble she has caused on Cyprus by either…

1. Cede a suitable island to the Ottoman remnants to form their own state and call their own. (Being right next to Turkey and appropriately sized, Rhodes is a good potential home for the Turkish Cypriots.)

2. Liberate the enslaved territories of Cyprus NOW!

Enough is enough!

I agree with the above point, but not necessarily for the reasons you state.

Turkey was looking for any excuse to invade and divide Cyprus; they had already had one attempt in the '60s ... so it was only a matter of time before they bombarded us again and more strongly.

The Greek Nation was not responsible for the actions of a few unelected individuals (in the pay of the CIA). We didn't give the Greek people any support when they were under the junta after all.

We failed to liberate ourselves in 1821 when we outnumbered the Ottomans even then ... so we left ourselves as the weaklings in the Hellenic World. The Achilles heel.

But I do think we can work towards liberation, together with the Greeks, since we share similar, strong cultural ties (making us one ethnicity).

I would accept the help of Greece :) ... And finally I am glad to see that you are moving towards realising we need to persuade the Greeks to offer us help.

Get Real are you for real? The invasion was planned long before 1974, I don't think the Greeks from Rhodes :( would be too happy about your stupid idea. As for the Ottoman remnants they can go back to Turkey for now until it is time to liberate Asia Minor then they will have to find somewhere else, maybe where they came from ie. Mongolia. :D

Last time I visited Green Lanes ... it was full of Turks and Kurds!

As a "Greek" of the UK ... where would you say the greatest concentration of Greeks was? Or did you say you were GC?

And your point being what that it's justified? :? If it makes you feel any better we can always pretend that we planned to attack Rhodes from 1263... happy?

And what makes you think the Cypriots were happy about Greece's stupid idea in 1974?

I'm half Greek Cypriot for your info, most live in north London and Enfield Middlesex.
Yes Green Lanes is full of Kurds/Turks but there are still lots of Greeks who live in Palmers Green especially the top part and Winchmore Hill. Most Greeks now live around Enfield town/Sothgate if your rich but if not Edmonton ( like me few years ago, but now I live in Enfield town :D ).
