Its high time Greece faced up to her responsibilities…

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Nikitas » Tue Nov 04, 2008 2:01 am

Hold your horses boys and girl!

Ever crossed your minds that the coup and invasion were pre arranged with the Turks? What was the outcome of the Evros agreement of 1968? The Greek division left the island and took its arms along.

What were the agreed ceasefire lines of 1974? The lines of military contact or some other lines further back?

Once the Turks realised what a mess the Greeks were in, they pressed the advantage home. And Ioannides uttered that mysterious phrase "the bastards double crossed me".

The reason the Cyprus File has not been opened and the people responsible for the betrayal not prosecuted is precisely because to do so would reveal the agreement and the parties to it.

As for giving a Greek island etc, that is not going to fly. It does not make sense to reward the invader and the Turks would not swap Cyprus for any other place. The Turks are fixed on Cyprus for their reasons, and they will not let go without someone smacking their hand, figuraively or otherwise.

As for the comments re leftist bands etc they are nonsense spoken by people who were not born at the time. The 650officers of the national guard had nothing to do with ELDYK. Get your facts straight before talking. The officers were there to make sure that the national guard was never "national" or "guard" of anything. It was their anticommunist arm in Cyprus to be used against a communist takeover, another favorite fantasy of Iannides and his mob who grew up during the Greek civil war. There were very few Cypriot senior offices in the NG in 1974, all senior commissions were held by Greeks.

Demetrious Hantzou not only was there. He was initally in the 221st infantry battalion of the National Guard serving as Deputy Commander and later transfered to the 361st infantry battalion as Commander.

From the inset of the book:
Demetrious Hantzou wrote:Κατά τα έτη 1972-1974 υπηρέτησε στην Κύπρο αρχικά ως Υποδιοικητής του 221 Τ.Π. και στη συνέχεια ως Διοικητής του 361 Τ.Π.

If he says they fought Epikouri I believe him.

So Hantzou was a part of the 650 mainland Greeks who degraded the national guard to the point it was sent to fight with no ammo and no battle plan.

Leave us alone re Nikephore!

Epikouroi, I assume you are referring to Epikourikoi, which were the auxiliary police of TCs organised by the British. What you mean to say is Efedriko Soma, the auxiliary police under Makarios. Learn your facts please!

Assholes like Hantzou first arrested the men of the Efedriko, then on Saturday morning they released them and sent them to fight in Kyrenia. Typical Greek mainland mess.

Does Hantzou mention anything about Captain Danos and his bravery at the Nicosia General Hospital?

As for the Ottoman remnants they can go back to Turkey for now until it is time to liberate Asia Minor then they will have to find somewhere else, maybe where they came from ie. Mongolia. :D

Last time I visited Green Lanes ... it was full of Turks and Kurds!

As a "Greek" of the UK ... where would you say the greatest concentration of Greeks was? Or did you say you were GC?

The last time I visited Yasar Halim (now just off the Greek Lanes - Hedge Lane) it was full of Greek Cyps. Not a single TC/T was about (apart from some of the staff. I thought I was in the 'wrong' place.

You know what went wrong with that thread? You were trying to be funny and that's why you failed. The good stuff comes when you are actually serious

Stick around Groucho, and hopefully the “Proud to be Hellenic” series will improve with time.
