In another thread there is a very disappointing interview with Talat, poste by Halil, in which he says clearly that if Turkey asked him to stop negotiating he would. The interview puts an official end to any idea that the TCs are Cypriots first and everything else second. But why?
I am sure that if pressed the TC posters would point out that TCs have no choice but to toe the Turkish line because they fear for their lives.
Most of the same posters pour scorn and ridicule on the idea that Cyprus would ever be in a position to militarily threaten Turkey.
There is a paradox in the above views. If Cyprus is not match for Turkey then where is the threat?
So what stops you from asserting yourselves, in your own country for heavens sakes! I suspect the real reason is that the TC community is refusing to mature and accept the responsibility of independence, which also explains the need for special status and treatment in any field, and also explains the views expressed by both Denktash and Talat that the TCs are no match for the GCs in business etc. Such views perpetuate the idea of the special case needing special treatment.
There is another side to such an attitude. That perhaps the TCs do not believe in their satus as a community able to stand on its own feet, even when equality is guaranteed. So they always need more. More territory, more guarantees, more special rules, more of everything. The problem is that more will not solve this particular problem, it just makes it worse.
