Talat :SOLUTION IS NOT POSSIBLE WITHOUT TURKEY’S SUPPORT

Postby halil » Sun Nov 02, 2008 6:04 pm

`Never without Turkey`, President Mehmet Ali Talat has said.

President Talat has reconfirmed that the solution of the Cyprus problem will no way be possible without Turkey’s approval.

In an interview he gave to a Greek Cypriot newspaper, Mr Talat said he expects the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias to show understanding towards this.
The President also expressed his foresight towards reaching a settlement by summer 2009, with an optimistic expectation that Christofias will contribute to the solution process.

Explaining that Turkey has obviously been providing its support to the solution process in Cyprus, Talat said this process would not have a start without Turkey’s support, stressing that Turkish Cypriots would not be sitting at the negotiations table without Turkey.

President Talat reminded that Turkish Cypriots have been suffering from the international isolation without having any internationally recognized link and said Turkey is the only entity that North Cyprus can trust at.
`If Turkey tells me not to sit at the negotiations table, I will surely do this so` he added.

`Bearing in mind that Turkey is the one to guarantee my economic living and world relations, then I would definitely not enter into the negotiations without taking Turkey’s approval` the President stressed.

Mr Talat went on to say that Turkey’s support is fundamental in the Cyprus solution process, adding that Mr Christofias did not feel such a need as the Greek Cypriot Administration owns the support of the EU member states.

Touching upon his disappointment over Mr Christofias’ approach, Mr Talat said he was very sad to see Mr Christofias as trying to prevent his meeting with the Australian Foreign Minister who recently held contacts in South Cyprus.

He said Mr Christofias keeps making criticism of Turkey but Turkey does not respond to his statements as it does not perceive him as a direct collocutor.

`I say to Mr Christofias- ‘my friend, Turkey is supporting us’- but Christofias replies to me saying –‘Turkey should leave us alone’` the President explained.

However, Christofias is making a big mistake against Turkey who keeps calling on him to make progress towards the solution of the Cyprus problem, Talat added.

Stating that Turkey has not imposed its own will on Turkish Cypriots, neither did it draw the path for Turkish Cypriots, the President said however that whenever the Turkish Cypriot side feels a demand of Turkey, they take it into serious consideration.

Informing that they have been sharing the negotiations information with Turkey and Turkey is explaining them its own views in return, the President however said that Turkey still leaves the decision to the Turkish Cypriot side.

You have just stated the bloody obvious Halil. The whole world knows that Talat is a proxy "negotiator" for Turkey, save your breath!
