Another typically narrow minded and daft statement from Oracle. "known world" ? It depends who's 'doing the knowing'.

I think you will find the context was Socrates .....

( ... but your lack of foresight gave your groupie T_C another chance to "smile").

Hey, I'm not anybodys groupie!!!

I even write things before I think them sometimes.

Thank you halil ....

Never has the phrase "Out of the mouth of babes and fools ...." been more aptly demonstrated

Now, having correctly identified the cause of the erosion of our identity (fortunately only a minority seem to have been adversely influenced to abandon their Hellenic roots) ... how are we going to set about restoring our Turk-bashing abilities?

If any of you have any doubts about whether Cypriots are Hellenes visit the Magna Grecia region of southern Italy.

The older folks there speak just like us Cypriots. Centuries after the colonisation of the area by Greeks the language survives. The similarity between that dialect and Cypriot dialect is evidence of the common heritage. That common heritage does not obligate us to become part of the modern Greek state. That is another issue altogether. Greece has shown itself not to be too intelligent in regard to centers of Hellenism outside its borders. If anyone cannot conceive of the wider notion of Hellene and Hellenism it is the inhabitants of the modern Athenocentric state.

Flag used by Greek guerrillas (1821-1829)

Image

Interesting similarities! 8)

The revolutionary motto: ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ Η ΘΑΝΑΤΟΣ = Freedom or Death.

This flag was used by the Greek guerrillas against the Ottoman occupation during the Independence war (1821-1829).

Why did the Cypriots not mount a similar campaign against the Ottomans? The Cypriots outnumbered the Ottomans almost fivefold even then!

Where have the Cypriots gone wrong? :?

If they were so happy, why did you assert that they turned towards Enosis with Greece since that time?

Isn't it more likely that the forewarned Ottomans over-reacted so much by killing the priests and figureheads of Cyprus and annexing Cyprus to Egypt, that they managed to hold on until Britain relieved them of their "charges"?
