DT,
When someone writes ...
Maybe those people are mad because the kept their money elsewhere and not in Cyprus and now the lost them

they clearly do not understand the basic international character of money, investment and derivative markets. If they go on to imply that not depositing in Cyprus resulted in their loss is plain daft.

One reason for not putting money under your mattress is (a) real terms depreciation, compounded by (b) inflation and in an island economy heavily dependent on international commerce, due to (c) exchange rate depreciation. You may not have noticed Oracle but economies don't run on the same basis as your granny's habits.

Cyprus has been at the heart of trade and civilisation for thousands of years longer than Iceland. 8) We are practiced Merchants and survivors; with an enviable climate and lifestyle, and many other commodities.

............and it's a member of the Commonwealth!

Maybe Cyprus will take over that pathetic string of supermarket shops sadly / unimaginatively named "Iceland" and thaw them into life again (sans Katona! ) :D 8)

I download and watch Have I got News for you, and Paul Merton did that one 2 weeks ago, but I do vaguely remember Bejams.

I know someone who's still got a Bejam branded freezer and it's working perfectly. You can't beat Scandinavia for quality :)
