Chinese grocery store in Cyprus?

Postby a266 » Fri Oct 31, 2008 7:30 pm

Hi all,

I might be moving to Cyprus in the next year. I've been to Cyprus once and had stayed for a month. I found it challenging to find a chinese grocery store in cyprus. I've been to the main supermarkets in Cyprus (Metro, Orphinides, Alphamega, etc) and they have a few selections, but nothing I can really use to make authentic dishes. The produce selection is very limited....I was desperate and bought a can of bean sprouts. It was very soggy and salty.

Is there an asian grocery store in Nicosia, Limmisol, Protaras, or Agia napa? Or is there no market for asian cuisine? I know there are a lot of chinese restaurants, but I guess they import their supplies on their own?

If you know of any stores with a selection of chinese produce, or other products, please help

Why don't you sprout your own beans .... (except Red Kidney beans .... TOXIC). :D They only take a few days to grow, and you can't get crisper and fresher than that.

I am Chinese/Vietnamese. I am a fan of asian cuisine...the authentic dishes. I am talking about dim sum and home cooking. During my stay there, I was craving for chinese and I refuse to go to the Chinese restaurants there. I know its "fake" chinese food. I want to find the ingredients so that I can cook at home. I want to be healty, and I want whole foods, nothing processed, nothing labeled.

I've thought about sprouting. It's not hard. But there's got to be more veggie selections in Cyprus.

I'm just preparing myself for some homecooking in case I get homesick.

LOl first of all, I am NOT from CHINA, I don;t know why people assume so. I don't think you understand what I am trying to say. I've tried local foods in Cyprus, I either find it too dry or too oily. Its not bad, don;t get me wrong. And I don't want to be 200lbs either. I just want to know if anyone knows of a chinese grocery store where I can find the indgredients to make a chinese dish when im craving.

But if you can;t help and suggest a place, then it's ok. Thanks anyways.

BTW, I don't think Cyprus food is proper food, even though i can understand why some might argue that it is.
