By Stefanos Evripidou
A LIMASSOL man was shot at while sitting on his balcony with friends over what is believed to be a financial dispute on Tuesday evening.
By midnight, police had arrested 41-year-old Georgios Taki Konnaris from Mouttayaka in connection with the attempted murder. Yesterday the court remanded Konnaris for five days.
Pieris Nicolas, 28, was sitting with friends on his balcony on the first floor of the Atrium Palace apartment block when a gunshot was fired in his direction, missing its intended target and hitting the air conditioning unit on the wall.
The perpetrator parked his double cabin on the corner of Mesolongiou and Stasinou Streets just before 7pm. With the engine running, the alleged gunman fired a shot at Nicolas with his hunting rifle. He sped off in the car immediately after.
Nicolas called police, saying he recognised his attacker. Before midnight, police arrested Konnaris, confiscating his firearms for further investigation. According to police, the incident is believed to be the culmination of a financial dispute between the two.
