statues, pictures and political material

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

statues, pictures and political material

Postby Big Al » Thu Oct 30, 2008 1:10 am

i have another hypothetical question for our pro unification members, cyprus, both north and south has an abundance of statues, pictures and general political material (including flags, pictures of makarios, ecevit, samson, ataturk etc). Should the current leaders come to some sort of agreement regarding cyprus what should be the fate of these political symbols. I know for a fact that TC would find it offensive to see statues/pictues of makarios/samson in their city as would i assume GC's would be offended by ecevit/ataturk paraphernalia.
What is the solution?? should they all be banned?? should each state be able to display what they like (the to detriment of co-existence)??
Thoughts and comments please.....

They NEED to be banished from the island. Some of the statues are soooooo ugly, ugh! Image

Even though I could live with SOME of the Turkish ones, I'd get rid of them for the sake of getting rid of the Greek ones. They're all eyesores IMO.

Who would the GCs nominate to have a statue?

I nominate one of the notables of Nicosia, Kara Bardak from the TC side. :D

Where have you seen a statue of Sampson? There is a large statue of Makarios in Nicosia in the Archipishop's Palace which was removed some days ago and placed in the mountains in Kykko Monastery.

I hate it when people who have no clue and conduct absolutely NO research to their posts state things with such certainty. It only leads to more and more people on this forum gradually disregarding your posts altogether.
