All these "memorials" to the "heroes" of Cyprus should be replaced by statues acceptable by both sides. I think that donkeys with large penises mounted on a map of Cyprus would be most appropriate, they epitomize the stupidity and stubborness of Greek, Turkish and Cypriot leaders who have fucked the island over the years!

Hold on a second! Where is the statue of Sampson? I have been around most of the island and never saw it, most likely it does not exist.

Makarios is CYPRIOT who in addition to being a former president elected several times, was also the head of the Greek Orthodox church of Cyprus. His statue is at a monastery and in the archbishop's residence.

As for Attaturk, what connection does he have with Cyprus? His statue is equivalent to one of Venizelos being put up in the south, which has not been done. And this statue along with his picture is eveywhere. I wish I had the monopoly on the the Attaturk pics and figurines business! Whoever has it must have made a bundle.

Ecevit and other non Cypriots are obvous choices for canning. Not to mention that Ecevit's figure is an aesthetic affront.

Welcome back stupid pom!

I propose huge EOKA memorials at the gates of the SBAs to symbolise and remind us and you of how you twats fucked the island for over 50 years.

You have no right in preventing Cypriots from having a couple of memorials to Makarios or EOKA.

Cheeky bastard.

Not a Pom thikko, a Charlie perhaps! Cheeky bastard yourself.

I don't have a problem with religious statues in the right place. Moving big Mak to Kykko is a good move, having him in front of a government building is probably quite offensive to some. As to Makarios's stupidity and stubborness, he could have accepted home rule in 1958 (semi - independence) and worked towards full independence later but he dug his heels in and ended up with 1960 Constitution and the balls-up we have today.

EOKA may have been fighting a just cause but they lost the plot when they killed unarmed civilians - including the Cypriot ones.

BTW no need to welcome me back I've been here all the time, I don't bother to post much these days, I got fed up with the bitching, posing, "aren't I clever posts?" and back slapping that infects this site.

Makarios did his absolute best under difficult circumstances. It is obvious that the overwhelming majority of people supported him and he was the nations longest serving President. So his statue can be anywhere we like.

I am not a fan of having statues everywhere, but when I was in Cyprus, I only saw 2 statues of Makarios. Hardly noticeable when you compare the 100s of Atta statues in the "trnc".

Tim. GR and DT, you are all tools. I never stated their were staues of Sampson in the ROC. Had you read my comments better you would see that i was talking not only about statues but pictures, portraits, flags or any other political paraphernalia. You have jumped to conclusions and then made some serious attacks on me for no reason. Tim you're an absolute tool, both you and GR should have read the thread better as i know your english is quite good. DT who is a couple of beers short of a six pack made a stupid assumption and both of you jumped on board. I dont mind debating with you guys and find it interesting most of the time but you guys have jumped into this one without looking.

Hmm, I wonder what's worse... being a tool or a fool? :?

There’s nothing on public display, statue, picture, or otherwise portraying Samson as he only attained infamy through treason so you don't have to worry about him.

Makarios however, is to be found in the form of a few statues and pictures, and burial ground at “Throni” up on the mountains, but I really can’t understand what TCs have against him. :?

Where have you seen a statue, picture or flag of Sampson anywhere? I reckon if you've started using six packs of beer as an analogy you may have already spotted your problem.
