advice needed please

Postby yesplease » Wed Oct 29, 2008 9:03 pm

Hi All
Im hoping i may be able to get some assistance in a difficult matter i have. I am a non resident father of 2 small children, whose mother remarried 3 yrs ago in Cyprus. The mother has now decided to move to Cyprus with her husband and my children  , there is nothing i can do to stop the move from happening and as i am totally commited to my children who i see several times a week, i am contemplating moving aswell.
Unfortunately i have not visited the island before, though i am well travelled and have lived on small islands in different parts of the world before.
I work in the restaurant and catering trade at management level, for the past 25yrs, so would like to find employment in this sector.
I have no savings and very liitle money to take with me, is there any advise as to my next move i.e finding cheap temporary accomodation, finding a full time job, and generally a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated and give me some peace of mind.
Thankyou

With no savings and very little money yesplease you may find things fairly challenging.

What kind of work are you looking towards?

It's very selfish of the mother to deprive the kids of their father by moving country. Surely you can put the kids on a stop-list to keep them from leaving the country. Go see your lawyer cos you have your rights.

thankyou Get real....there are some very selfish mothers out there!!, unfortunately family law invariably comes down on the side of the mother..i believe that if i attempt to put a stop order on it then it will only jepordies our amicable relationship and then the children will suffer.
I have had plenty of advice from Families need Fathers an excellent organisation if anybody has issues with divorce or seperation, they advise to avoid lawyers at all costs....so we have managed to deal with everything maturally with the childrens best interests at heart for several years now...thats why she wanna move..she believes the kids will have a better quality of life there....and even though it makes life difficult for me i have to agree.

Better Life for the Children

Postby loving it » Thu Oct 30, 2008 2:21 pm

I think your wife is 100% right in saying that your children will have a better life in Cyprus then in the UK. For a start I’ve never heard of any children being stabbed, of mobs of hooligans roaming the streets or any of the nightmare hobbies many children in the UK seem to fall into. They will be healthier from the food and the outdoor life and in general the schools seem to be better than many in the UK.

However, as for you following them. This would be great for you and them but realistically could be a problem. Maybe you could write to all the large hotels and restaurants with your C.V. I’d try on both sides of the island as its not that far to travel at weekends to see the kids.

Let us know how you get on. The very best of luck to all your family.

I can only suggest that you consult lists of hotels in Cyprus, eg:

http://www.cyprus-hotel.com/?gclid=CO_X ... ugodu0_l1Q

and e-mail a CV and covering note to them all. You may find one that can offer you a live-in position. Obviously, your chances would have been much better at the beginning of the summer season, rather than now. Still worth trying.
