Transfer fees - cash only?

I have heard that when you (finally) get your title deeds from the land registry office, you have to pay the transfer fees in cash. Can anybody conform this? It seems odd that in this day and age you cannot write a cheque drawn on a current account with one of the Cypriot banks.

Come on Tim, this is one of the things that the Government here is way behind in. You may be able to get away with a Bank Draft, but a personal or company cheque, forget it!
