AliTalat: I am the vice president of the Republic of Cyprus

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby metecyp » Thu May 19, 2005 5:35 pm

Why did you avoid to answer my other question, are you imported too?

No, I'm not "imported". I was born and raised in Nicosia. I've been away from Cyprus in the last 5 years though due to studies in the US. Happy? What about you?

Raf, for your info, I am imported from Anatolia. I was shipped by DHL to Famagusta via Famagustan port. I am an Anatolian "parasite" (quote Main_Source), incapable of civilising (quote Piratis), I will cut the nose of my future daughter if she will not marry her rapist (quote Kifeas), and to satisfy you I am a gypsy... Happy?

edit: lol mete, I also said "Happy?". We are desperate to satisy Rafaela's concerns aaahahah

Well for me it's very clear who the 2 year old is.The one who cannot answer a valid point.

Metecyp wrote: My problem is your ignorance. It's very easy to call a
group of people "imported gypsies", isn't it?

It seems to me you are the ignorant one. Does the term trashy settlers describe them better for you?

Ok, here's my honest opinion about settlers. I used to be really against them when I was younger. I never had a settler friend when I was in middle/high school. The only settlers I saw were the ones who worked at construction sites around my house and it was clear to me even at a child age that they are different; they've a different culture, different values, different looks than us...everything about them was different and seemed backwards to me.

After I came to the US, I experienced for the first time what it means to be foreigner in a country. I was never treated wrongly in the US. Americans, however dumb you might think they are, were almost always welcoming towards me. They never looked down on me just because I'm from another country and I had a different culture.

My experience in the US made me realize how I was being judgemental in terms of settlers. I go to Cyprus once or twice a year (I'll be there this Saturday by the way!) and I try to view settlers in my new outlook. It really changes how you perceive them.

I can't say I perceive TCs and settlers in the same way. I still don't have settler friends but I realized that most of these people are not monsters that we would like them to be. They came to Cyprus not because they wanted to because they had to. Most of them live in miserable conditioins not because of their low culture but because they have no other choice.

Whether we like it or not, settlers will be a parameter in a future solution. We simply cannot ship them like animals back to Turkey. Most of them have children who were born here and raised here and who don't know anything other than Cyprus. Settler problem is a humanitarian problem and it'll be solved accordingly. The sooner we accept this the better.

adjectives aside, the settlers are not RoC citizens and therefore they can elect nobody for any position in RoC.

If Talat wants to be RoCs vice president then he has to follow the agreed procedures (for which the end of occupation is needed) and be voted only by Turkish Cypriots.

Whether we like it or not, settlers will be a parameter in a future solution. We simply cannot ship them like animals back to Turkey.

Who said like animals? They will go to turkey in the same way they came to Cyprus. When you go to a foreign country if you don't get the citizenship of the country or a permit to stay, you have to return to your country. This is what will happen to me if I decide to go lets say to US. I am not asking to treat foreign citizens in my country in a worst way that I would be treated in a foreign country. (even if this foreign citizens, unlike me, were brought illegally and they have acted with no respect to the laws of this country. I am willing to forgive their crimes against us, but from some point and after the illegality will have to end and it can not be legalized)
