I firstly must appologise for this post as the question has been asked many times before, but all of the info out there is a bit sketchy !!!
So.....heres my question.
I plan to move to Cyprus sometime next year and after looking at vehicle prices in Cyprus, i have decided to take a car over from the UK, due to prices being pretty high in Cyprus.(in my opinion)
So, i am thinking of buying a 2002/3 Skoda Fabia 1.4 50,000 miles (max) at around £2000, 3 months before we go.
(reasons- VW build & engine, not the sort of car to be owned by a boy racer, good value for money, I can check all Service History before i go.)
But, this is where i seem to be coming a bit stuck. - So now for the obvious questions.
I could have a bit of a road trip and drive to Greece and then get a ferry to Cyprus, but....what happens when i get to Cyprus, can i just drive off, go through passport control and drive on my way, then later sort out import duties or is it more complicated ??
Or ship the car over and pay duties etc....this being the case,
*Does anybody know the correct dutie prices ?
*Or a Cyprus Government website giving accuarate information ?
*I have heard cars of a certain age cannot be imported !! Is this true ?
*Due to Cyprus now being part of the EU are there any work arounds on duty ?
I am hoping to become a large contributor on this forum over the years, so i hope this question doesn't seem to mundane, but we all have to start somewhere.
Thanks
Danny
