Most of these people are not leaping in the dark, they do it in broad daylight with their eyes wide open, which is what makes it even more surpising!

Welcome to the forum.
Regarding the TEFL teaching qualification, your wife would really need a degree to do any teaching in Cyprus. My daughter did the same qualification but whilst being good at her job, had to leave.

You do not mention whether you have any young children, this is something you might want to look at before you decide on moving here, that is if you have any.
