In memory of Stephanos Stephanou

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

In memory of Stephanos Stephanou

Postby DT. » Fri Oct 24, 2008 9:05 am

The memorial of Stephanos Stephanou who was killed last year while in Turkish police custody will be held on the 1st November at the Church of Konstantinou kai Elenis at 10:00am. The family invite all those who wish to pay their respects to join us in remembering him on that day.

Thank You

DT, is there an official on-going investigation, or is being hoped that it will "all get forgotten"? I am pleased to see that the Family are keeping this in the public eye. I wish them well.

The Cypriot police has conducted a limited investigation and there will be a hearing to determine the facts on the 3rd of December. The Turkish side has simply said that the 11 broken ribs were due to resuscitation attempts (!) and has closed the file.

There is an application in Strasbourg at the ECHR pending.

I'm sure we will all remember him and all the victims (of both communities and others) in our tragedy. Condolences to his family and friends.

A stark reminder to all who think it’s safe to gamble one’s life in an illegal military area where international organizations like the UN, Red Cross, and others at the forefront of human rights and justice, sadly have no jurisdiction. :(
