Big brother is alive and well............
Australia is a liberal society. Surely you are not going to compare Australia to Turkey. The 2 countries are miles apart in terms of democracy, liberalism and human rights.
Australia is not planning to ban Youtube.
Australia is only introducing legislation which would prohibit and "block" childhood pornography sites, and I think this is good thing.
No, I was not comparing Australia to Turkey, just pointing out they are not the only country that wishes to control what their citizens watch on the internet. Turkeys banning of Youtube because of critisism of their policies and government etc is pathetic, (but I agree that banning certain sites would be good).
There are a lot of things on youtube that show Turkey's appalling treatment of women, (posted by Turkish people) which is good, and the more exposure to wrongdoings the better the chance of it stopping. A while ago someone posted a short video of a young woman being dragged off the street and into a taxi by males of her family, and because of youtube evidence the woman I believe was saved from an honour killing, so I am a great fan of Youtube and am very disapointed that Turkey has banned it.
