GO OBAMA

Dont count your chickens before they hatch, promises are never kept in politics, look at the EU promises none have been kept towards the TCs.

only because the turkish side is insisiting on things to make the trnc recognised and no way will eu ever let trnc be recognised...

america always keeps their promise obama has no reason to lie it will barely get him many extra votes there is more turkish in america then greek so he would of been better off saying well recognise trnc if he was doing it for votes...

Does he even know where Cyprus is? he is very green and naive about international politics, once they point out to him about American Turkish relations he will do what all politicians do find an excuse to do nothing.

Asking the citizens of a sovereign country to live under a neighbor’s threat so that a volatile TC minority may forever have the luxury of playing political games at will is counterproductive for ALL concerned; your people included.

If anything it’s the TC minority that needs to ensure they don't give the majority GCs another opportunity or excuse that may end up like the 63 events you often complain about…

Your time would be better spent TEACHING your people to SWIM WITH THE FLOW instead of against it because those minorities that did (Maronites, Armenians) today have a life style around 10x superior to that of the foolish TCs, so those “terrible” Greek Cypriots must know a thing or two about the good life after all…

The above comments are why there will never be a solution, the arrogance and despot attitude GR and the majority of GCs display will guarantee this. The Swiss and Norwegians have a better standard of life than you guys and we have a better standard than Estonia or Romania so your high and mighty crap don't cut any ice with TCs. Dont forget we have been south it aint anything special you all have debt up to your ears and think you live the good life on tick, as we all know placing a saddle on a donkey dont make it a race horse.

Bananiot has respect ,understanding and empathy for the TCs,he understands the very difficult position they are in,and he knows why they are where they are...He has not taken the easy road(blame everything on the other side),wiped out everything that happened before 1974,and present the whole problem as simply "a problem of Turkish occupation"...He knows that time is working against Cypriots and against unification...He knows that soon, withing 25 years say,in about half the time this conflict has been playing out, there will be no one left who will remember what it was like to live together, let alone want to...He knows that when that time comes nobody would talk about a BBF, never mind about unification...Partition will just be a fete accompli, end of story...Bananiot can see both sides of the equation, and believes that both sides must compromise to get a solution...To prevent Cyprus and Cypriots from being torn apart,to preserve some sort of self-determination for all Cypriots...So what if Turkey has "rights of guarantee" on paper....????Let them have their guarantee and take their soldiers out of Cyprus... Then make sure we don't give them another opportunity or excuse to invade again.... And with their soldiers let them take most of their settlers with them,to make room for the refugees who might still want to return...Bananiot is a True Cypriot because he is not after revenge or punishment for some percieved wrongs some Cypriots might have committed in the past... JHe knows as I know that Turkey was dragged into this conflict by the big international powers to serve their interests...He is a realist who is trying to keep the baby and throw away some of the bath water...He loves the Republic in all its diversity and never blames the victims for the wrongs done to some other victims...He can see the big picture, refusing the lure of petty nationalism and vengeful partisanship...He sees what none of you can see, that no one,not the EU or the UN or America or Russia will lift a finger to help Cypriots get their country back, because it is not in their interest, and everything has always revolved about the national interests of the Bully boys...Bananiot knows that the national interest of Cyprus lies in giving whatever concessions necessary to get Turkey out of Cyprus, and return it to her people irrespective of their ethnic origin...And make sure the mistakes of the past are never repeated...I respect him because he is not deluded, like some are in this Forum, believing that force of arms will ever, can ever, solve this problem...He knows that Peace can only be achieved by working for peace and not by preparing for War...

Bananiot's mere presence on this Forum gives me some hope that sanity might one day rule...That we are not all bitter and twisted egomaniacs, slaves of our base animal insticts...I am happy to say that your presence too,DT,is a very hopeful sign that some of us are thoughtful, inquisitive, decent human beings capable of independent thought, empathy and compassion for our compatriots...All is not lost as long as Bananiots of this world keep their spirits up...

Well said.

Ditto the above as I have stated before I would gladly live in a unitary state if all GCs thought like Bananiot but unfortunately he is a minority thats why we need BBF with lots of safeguards and guarantees.

I get the feeling sometimes,GR,that you live on another planet.
If you think we are where we are because the "volatile TC minority" played "political games at will" back in the 50s and 60s,there is not much I can do for you...

Except perhaps to advise you to "get real" yourself...Whether I like it or not,the TCs are not going to accept the position of simply minority you want to bestow on them..They were made equal partners in the 1960 Agreements and Constitution, and they obviously do not see why, after all they have been through, they should return to the horrible days of the 60s and early 70s...Most of them are convinced that becoming "Turkish" is better than living under "Greek" rule...What are you and your cohorts doing to assure them they would not be at the mercy of fanatical, revengeful nationalists hell bent of making them pay for their percieved "sins" of the past???? Keep up your insults and threads GR,and the only people you will convince to live with you would be found in the lunatic assylums around the world...

You are fools for thinking you have the upper hand and are in a position to dictate absurdities, and time will teach you that a bankrupt minority with the sole Ace of the Turkish military blackmail is a BAD long-term “investment” for its future.

Ah Bir! If the only thing that Turkey wanted is that guarantee there would be no problem! But they want so much more and frequently say so. When we hear that Cyprus is "vital to Turkey's security", or that "the seas south of Cyprus are part of Turkey's continental shelf", or that "Turkey will never remove its troops from Cyprus" the situation assumes a different cast.

Giving in to these demands automatically means that we must bend the other way to accomodate Greece too, and then we are back at square one where the embassies of our three guarantors are the real seats of power and their willing local helpers are busily responding to their masters' voices.

The thing missing is an emphatic demand by TCs for independence. GCs asking for the removal of settlers and the army cannot do it, it can easily be construed as racism or nationalism. Only TCs can do it. And instead of such a demand we see more settlers, more dealings in land. When Talat says that if the Turkish army leaves the GCs will have the TCs for breakfast then we are kind of stuck.

Nikitas,

You will always hear different voices from Turkey, saying different things on Cyprus...you shouldn't take them seriously...There was indeed real change and real opportunity back in 2003/4 with the accent of the AKP and Talat....These two events were related, and for the first time ever there were real will and motivation in Turkey (for their own reasons, and not for just EU purposes either) to agree to a solution in Cyprus...That window of opportunity was closed because people got stuck in petty details and lost track of the real and immediate necessity: Getting Turkish troops and settlers out of Cyprus at all cost...4 years down the track, with another 100,000 settlers in place, and the slow but inevitable Denktashisation of Talat, and the slow and inevitable Militarisation and Kemalisation of the AKP government in Turkey, things are looking bleaker for the struggle to reunify our homeland...

Don't expect an "emphatic demand" by the TCs for independence,Nikitas.
They have fired their best and only shot back in 2003/4 by demanding Peace and casting aside Denktash ...They hate losing their identity as TCs and being ruled by Turkey, but the majority will always prefer that to risking life and limp again as a minority in the present ROC... :(

Right… so Bananiot is all these wonderful things you describe above because he has lost all hope that he can ever acquire captured territory back!

Well there you go people! The sooner you GIVE UP wanting to liberate your country the sooner this false prophet will shower you with compliments like he did to Bananiot!

Bananiot knows that the national interest of Cyprus lies in giving whatever concessions necessary to get Turkey out of Cyprus, and return it to her people irrespective of their ethnic origin

Seriously now... what is your IQ? Image

My IQ has served me well so far,GR,don't you worry about that.
I am surprised that with you obviously superior IQ,you didnt work out what I was trying to say...Bananiot sees people as people,Cypriots as Cypriots, without worrying about their ethnic origins..He knows that getting Turkey out of Cyprus is in the national interest of all Cypriots irrespective of their ethnic background....And he knows time is running out...

Now tell me,GR,what is your EI???? (Emotional Intelligence)
