The Real News From The Occupied North

Postby bill cobbett » Wed Oct 22, 2008 9:51 pm

This appears in Cyprus Weekly's report of a broadcast from Bayrak which demonstrates the real opposition amongst our northern brethren to the Occupation Regime and to over-reliance on the Fascist State of Turkey.

We would do well to remember that there are some very brave, peace seeking Cypriots north of the buffer zone. It is all too easy to criticise the Police State of the Occupied North from the safety of our little desks in the Free World, but these people are brave and worthy of our respect and support (imho).

Free yourself from Turkey, Talat told

Free yourself from Turkey, teachers tell Talat

The Cyprus Turkish Teachers Union (KTOS) has called on Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat to free himself from the influence of Ankara but also criticised President Demetris Christofias for being insincere towards the Turkish Cypriots.

In a written statement issued this week and broadcast by the illegal Bayrak station, KTOS Secretary General Sener Elcil said:

"It Talat was truly sincere about the negotiation process he would not have put Turkey’s schismatic proposals on the table. What is understood for all this is that Turkey is getting ready to block the ongoing negotiation process and to reinforce the current division of the island, all part of its wider plans since 1950 to partition Cyprus."

Regarding President Christofias, Elcil said that he should take concrete steps to demonstrate that Turkish Cypriots have an equal right of existence on the island and should be allowed to benefit from their rights stemming from the 1960 Cyprus Republic.

"You cannot achieve anything with empty words and promises of political equality," he added.

KTOS noted that the efforts for finding a solution had reached an important change and ruining the current process will not only result in the disappointment of the two communities but also render the division of the island permanent.

Sorry, what else would the teachers in the north want?

They know our teachers don't work more than 24 hours a week, have about 5 months off, make a fortune from the private lessons that are necessary as they do bugger all teaching at school, and get a bloody great pension.

I am surprised that we don't have thousands of teachers from all over the world trying to get in here!

This from a group of people GCs could get support from yet even they mistrust your leader.

In view of the predictable attempt to spoil a thread from the Northern Propagandists. here is part of the article again with the criticism of Talat and of Turkey by the northern teacher's union writ large.

Perhaps the Propagandist Viewpoint, who as is clear to all, speaks for no one bar himself can give us his viewpoint on the words repeated and highlighted here, in very large letters, that even he can not ignore.

This is one interpretation from a spoilt and under worked group of people who can air their views but this does not necessarily mean this has the support of 100% of teachers let alone the TC people. these are all excuses as neither side has the vision or desire to solve anything, this problem will be around for a long time to come get used to it and make the best of it.

The bravest citizen living in the occupied territory must be that old man (no not VP) who every 1960 RoC anniversary turns the outside of his house into a daring display of RoC flags and paraphernalia. I don’t recall his name though.

I feel compelled to take you up on this as my wife happens to be a state high school teacher.

I can assure you that it is VERY HARD work, many nights working right though the night till 10 or 11pm writing up tests, the lesson for the next day, marking tests/exams, having evening staff meetings, managing festivities, meeting and dealing with parents, etc, etc, etc. It just never ends.

On top of that teachers have to deal with daily ABUSE from students that range from insults to death threats and/or damage to their vehicle. Many teachers, my wife included, would’ve opted for an alternative career had they known what it’s really all about.

I've never heard of the actions of this brave, public spirited citizen. Any more information?

I've heard about him and seen his house on the news for a couple of years in succession; let's hope one of the TCs can shed some more light...
