How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Perhaps we can make up by selling these laser things. We only need to invent them or send a spy to steal the prototype.

You are absolutely right!!!

Why enter into a costly arms race when we can negotiate away basic human and democratic rights. Brilliant idea!!! :? :x

Do you know that Greece and Turkey are engaged in an arms race?

Yes mate , he is right , wise and mature unlike you Plonker full of hot air !!

No one regardless of who's in govt has the right to mess with the protection of the people and the defenders of the islands sovereignty no matter how weak or strong that force is.

Questions need to be asked of both the previous administration and the current one on what happened to those funds. They were both in power and they share responsibility. AKEL now seem determined to disband the NG regardless of whether or not a solution is near.

Any reservists out there will understand what I mean.

It does not matter how small or big you are!!

I can tell you that a country with a military force of 50,000 can defeat another country with a military force of 6 million. It is all about technology and maintaing the edge in strategic attack with pin point accuracy.

It takes one little technology step to make big things obsolete. But this small step needs broad minds.

Bananiot is missing the point.Assuming that tomorrow we solve ALL problems and we are a nice peaceful BBFed nation, the question will arise on how we protect our offshore assets against other neighbors not just Turkey. Lowering our pants and asking either Greece or Turkey for cover is not the most wise thing to do.

Defence is not a patriotic duty, it is a practical necessity for all nations. Some problems just do not go away.

The national guard cannot protect us when it comes to war no matter how much we spend. However, sane policies are our greatest ally and these include mature moves like joining the European Union, which was a result of the sane policies of Klerides and Simitis, carefull choosing of our strategic allies for we cannot go the distance alone and last but by no means least to understand very well our size and not extend our arm where we cannot reach for it will get burnt as it did many times in our recent history, mainly because we thought that we could play games with the world's mightiest.

Sure, an army of 50 000 can defeat an army of 6 million, provided it has superior technology but in our case the superior technology is sported by a key NATO country and if Israel springs to mind, then we are not and cannot be Israel, simply because we do not have the credentials. On the contrary, Turkey is Israel, multiplied by a factor of 15.

DT, care to tell Paphitis what Papadopoulos has done to the national guard? Tell him what Dimokratikos Sinagermos is accusing him, that he has not spent one penny on the national guard in five years. Tell him that the parliamentarians of Dimokratikos Sinagermos have taken the issue to Parliament for discussion.

As it was in the papers last week (can't be arsed to find a reference) that the Defence Fund contribution has been mainly used for other purposes over the last year or so, they ain't getting the funding

As for the capabilities of modern planes to fire from 150 miles, that is exactly what these lasers are aimed at, the ordnance released by planes and other means. So with a fraction of the cost of one plane a small nation can defend itself against these expensive toys that cost billions. But it takes balls to break out of the box and think like an independent nation and plan defence practically.

So far what I see is a lot of parades, lots of time spent on teaching recruits how to salute. This is all crap intended for internal consumption. I will be impressed when there is a school of military tecnology run by Cypriots.

Since when do you follow defense spending? :? For your info, during Tpaps reign we acquired some of the world's most sophisticated defense and offence military systems. Where have you been? :?

It’s your friend the incompetent communist that hasn't spent a penny but is also trying to destroy what we've got.

Of course it was CBBB, in order to boost the financial indices for the glory of the mini ethnarch that wanted another 5 years at the helm. You see, when you play the patriotic hand too, you can fool every body in this plantation.
