I wondered if anyone could please advise me as to the legalities of Job advertising with regard to Equal opportunities within the RoC.
Does a firm wishing to fill a vacant post have to advertise the vacancy publicly,or are they able to promote staff from within the company without advertising it" :?: :?: :?:

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks............

Hello Robin and welcomer to the forum.

In cyprus you can advertise or not or give the job to the nearest road sweeper, no one gives a ****

Just get who you want how you want, no worries.

Good luck

Oh, and here you can even ask for a man or a woman again no ones gives a hoot about sexual discrimination.

Hi there, thank you for your welcome and reply comments.
I am quite surprised by what you told me as I would have thought that under EU rulings ,things may be more strict.
I realise that things on the island tend to be more relaxed, but from a legal aspect, would it be fair to say that you could raise this as an issue with the relevant authorities if you felt that things had been handled less than fairly???

I don't think there is any pussy-footing in Cyprus, so you know where you stand. Which is great.

Adverts are specifically worded in the UK such that you get an idea that they are going to go to an internal candidate ....

Often companies just advertise to show-off to competitors that they are recruiting.

Usually they are not, and mostly it is internal re-shuffling.

And don't be fooled by how "equal" you think they are in the UK.

I was asked directly at a job interview if I intended getting pregnant during the course of a project .... Despite all EU "rules".

I think I get the general idea of what you are saying, and I understand that there may be certain flexibilities ,shall we say, however,I am more interested in securing specific legal guidelines which would allow me to lodge a formal complaint against this company which is fairly high profile and is managed by English personell.
Would their guidelines be governed more strictly???

Just to get an idea, Cyprus is a country where the word “Salesman” means some person with a penis between his legs trying to sell you something that is not necessarily a penis.

In the western world however, the word “Salesperson” is used instead which basically means some person trying to sell you something that is almost always a penis.

So there you have it… 8)

Robin,

bottom line, just recruit who you want the best way you know how. Don't worry about authorities, whingers or anyone else.

Yes we maybe in the EU, but we do have some way to go.

Go ahead get your people.
