Germasoya - Limassol whats it like

Postby pantheman » Thu Oct 16, 2008 1:38 pm

Can any of you Limassolians tell me anything about Germasoya?

Is it a popular area of Limassol, would you live there? Would you buy a place there?

Is it a russian location? Anything you care to venture.

Cheers.

P.S. I have my reasons for asking.

I think you will find it is now full of yobs and prostitutes (some of them Russian).

This is my understanding, but I haven't been there for at least 25 years.

You have to distinguish between the municipality of Potamos Germasoya, which is on the sea front, and Germasoya, which is where the old village used to be. I think the highway more or less splits the two. CBBB is almost certainly referring to the former when he speaks of an area full of yobs. The old village area, where there is a lot of development going on, is very pleasant and I for one would be happy to live there.

Isn't Germasoyia pretty much the long busy road parallel to the sea, full of tourists, hotels, souvenir shops, night life, noisy, expensive, etc?

No, you wouldn’t want to live there.

My only experience is that there's a very nice and big dam somewhere near there. Be nice to live near that - no water in it though.

Basically what were once the villages of Agios Athanasios, Germasoyia, Moutayiaka (Mutluyaka) and Agios Tychonas have all become municipalities within the Limassol urban area. Each of these municipalities includes part of the "tourist area" along the sea front, which is as you describe it. At the same time, there has been a lot of high quality residential development where the old villages were located, further away from the sea. Essentially, the higher you go, the more pleasant it gets.

Hmm... are those properties "attainable"? :) Agios Tychonas is pretty expensive I hear...

How attainable is attainable? I live in Agios Athanasios. There is a mixture of low rise blocks of flats and villas here. The flats are reasonably attainable. On the other hand, I see there is a large villa with a private swimming pool close to where I live on the market for a million euros.
