Never get your knickers in a twist unless you have CREDIBLE EVIDENCE. These figures are rubbish and I have written to the site owners to verify their credible source.

The total figure agrees with the CIA data sheet, but I can't find a breakdown anywhere.

They probably don't mention the number because from what I have seen, there are very few mainland Greeks that have actually come to live here. And probably not much more in number, than any other Europeans like Swedes, German etc.

Most of my Paphos cousins that studied in Greece, have married Greeks and chosen to live in Greece ... very few Greeks actually are attracted to Cyprus any more than any other Hellenic Island

Halil is trying to equate illegal Anatolian Settlers with EU members who do have a legal right to reside under EU regulations.

I have just had a chat with a certain Chris who appears to be the owner of the business and it turns out he got his figures in bits and pieces from all over the place and even had to modify the figures here and there to make them look realistic. He says that Monday morning he will be seeing his web programmer to instruct the correction of his mistake and post an apology.

Regards, GR.

The most detailed figures I can find are from the 2001 census which was published by the Government in 2005!!!

So very unlikely there is anything offical that is more up to date.

I saw some figures in the Cyprus Weekly quite some time ago showing a breakdown by nationality of EU nationals working in Cyprus (i.e. only those employed, not self-employed or retired people) and it seems that mainland Greek nationals head this table. It is not so surprising really considering that they speak (on paper) the same language. You come across mainland Greeks in Limassol who are working here - quite legitmately, obviously.

Hi Tim.
Are you just making an assumption based on how they speak? I was recently surprised by a Mainland Greek sounding Taxi driver who turned out to be Cypriot, but who had lived in Greece for many years and had returned (with a Greek wife, I think).

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics - and I was just quoting the latter, based on a reliable source. My anecdotal evidence, strictly speaking, is restricted to the single example of a former regular passenger on our local bus route.
