It means that the whole CNG will fore-go vital training which is critical to every soldier in order to maximise their effectiveness and ability to protect every single Cypriot village and city and survive should any disaster occur.
It also sends a clear message to the whole world that Cyprus is willing to ignore and neglect her fundamental right as a free nation, in having an adequately equipped and trained Defence Force.
Demilitarisation is a partial surrender of the nation's sovereignty.
Cypriots need to put things into perspective. For around 2000 years Cyprus has never enjoyed self determination, except since 1960, and even this is debatable. As such, if defence is not taken seriously, Cypriots might want to pause and think about the prospect of a further 2000 years being ruled by other powers as was the case in the past (Venetians, Ottomans, GB etc etc). My apologies if this shocks you.
What makes you all so certain that the next 2000 years will be any different? Cyprus is located in an extremely unstable and volatile region.
Christofias is being very irresponsible. It should not be up to Cyprus to show some good will by cancelling Nikiforos. Potentially this can cost lives.
The argument some people frequently use that we are part of the EU is also grossly invalid. There are no guarantees that the EU will exist in longevity and it is already deeply fractured in certain respects.
