How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Just wondering what your military plans are in time of need

time of need you mean time of Turkey invading and capturing the whole island ? Just I dont see this happening and the risk of that is almost 0 especially now .why wasting money and resources that could have put in other places . transport , education etc

The decision to cancel Nikiphoros was taken by our OWN President and not by myslef . Good decision.

Right, so if it suddenly goes from your assumed ”0” (despite 37% of Cypriot territory being under occupation) to a “10” do you think you’ll have enough time to gather and train a military force to delay the enemy enough so that your wife and daughters can at least save their lives?

Where do you currently reside Michalis?

Countries cannot turn on/off a military guard like a light-switch based on “chances are” but always have one ready JUST IN CASE!

It takes decades to build up a decent military force and just a week to dismantle it so be careful what you wish for Michalis… and others.

This is bad news for the farmers and distillers, all those people who will not spend four days making souvlakia and drinking brandy!

Did I say to abandon the whole defence system ? No . An army can be effective without that long military service 26 months - the hisghets worldwide - higher than Israel . For example investing in technology and training and simulatneouldy reducing its service will have no effect in effectiveness.

I am on holiday now GR . :o

Very good decision, it sends the right signals too, that we are preparing for peace, not war. Only a stupid president would call for military exercises during negotiations for peace. Good on Christofias.

If you reduce the obligatory military service we'll end up with less ready-for-combat soldiers and more slack reservists. How can that not have an effect on our readiness to defend?

Come on GR, how ready are the majority of conscripts for any kind of serious action?

Two days without their mummy's doing their washing for them or having to go without take-aways and they will all wave the white flag.

GR do you think we live in a military island . We have done that for how many years now and yet there has been no difference . What makes you think that folowing the same attitude will work in the long run ?
