He already has a pet passport, he's had his Rabies injection and confirmation check up; he's been 'chipped and chopped'. He has to have a tick and parasite check 24-48 hrs before travel, but - WHICH AIRLINE TO USE and what are the practicalities ? Can I just take him to the airport and book him on (in his cage of course) as excess baggage ?

No! ... no more excess baggage!
Has to go Cargo with British airways from Larnaca to Heathrow (terminal 5) ...
Although Thomas Cook may now handle ... but I have no experience with them.
BA are fine ... you just need good directions for picking up pet at Terminal 5 quarantine ... which you will not get from BA!
But if you are desperate I can give you blow by blow.
