A woman wakes up during the night to find that her husband was not in bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him, finding him sitting in the kitchen with a cup of coffee.
He appears to be deep in thought, just staring at the wall, she sees him wipe a tear from his eye as he takes a sip of coffee. 'What's the matter darling' she whispers as she steps into the room, 'Why are you down here in the early hours of the morning'.
The husband looks up from his coffee and sighs, 'Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating and you were only sixteen?' 'Yes I do dear' she replies.
The husband paused, the words not coming easily with a tremor in his voice, 'Do you remember when your father, the circuit judge, caught us fondling and kissing each other passionately in the back of my car?'. 'Yes I do my sweet, I remember it well' she said lowering herself into the chair next to him and putting an arm around his shoulder. He continued, 'Do you remember he put the shotgun into my face and said "Either you marry my daughter or I will send you to jail for 20 years". 'I remember that too' she replied softly.
He wiped another tear from his cheek and said 'I would have got out today'.
