Mare's milk! How many mares are there in Cyprus so you can get enough milk to make the stuff?

SSbubbles- you have not tried the right kind of olive yet. You must take a trip to Greece and investigate the hundreds of varieties of olives, one of them will be right for you. Cyprus does not offer variety, it is either saly black ones or crushed green ones.

I have tried the Greek ones, though they are 'juicy'/oily, tastewise the Cypriot ones are MY favorites.

The 7th International Olive Festival began with a cortege in Girne.
The festival which aims to highlight olive production and use in the Republic began with a cortege in Girne and then an opening ceremony was held in the Zeytinlik Village.(Templos Village)

Speaking here Girne Mayor Sumer Aygin said ‘olives are the most important products in the Mediterranean region and products made from olive must be promoted.’

‘The olive industry must be protected and must be passed on to the next generation’ he said adding that the village of Zeytinlik can contribute to the tourism industry in Cyprus also.

The Mayor of Romania’s Radauti region Olarean Aurel and Izmir’s Mayor for Karsiyaka Cevat Durak also attended this year’s Festival.
The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Mehmet Ali Talat found time in his busy schedule to attend this year’s festivals.

In his speech the president reminded that the olive was the symbol of Cyprus and pointed to the importance of protecting olive and carob trees in Cyprus.

He also expressed his pleasure at the increasing interest in the olive festival which has an artistic aspect to it and is improving with every passing year.

After the speeches were completed the traditional incense was light which marked the beginning of the 7th international olive festival.

Within the framework of the festival, a food competition will be held at the Zeytinlik(Templos) Ottoman House - here competitors will make food which contains olive products.

Hand crafts, art exhibitions, dance shows, theatrical shows and a concert by Cem Adrian will also be taking place throughout the festival which comes to a close on the 16th of October.
