Greek-Writen Cyprus Problem Article

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Piratis » Wed May 18, 2005 3:14 pm

NO You know Turkey wrong. We want 6 miles stay for both country.

According to international law Greece can take 12miles (Turkey can take 12 as well).

So take 12miles for Turkey also. No problem. Why should Turks stop Greece from exercising their legal right? I don't think Greece has any problem if Turkey gets 12 miles also.

I think this problem is completely political and greeks dont want to accept it.

Look at the map guys. There is a very small island just in the south of Turkey (not in the aegean sea I guess)

So why this island belongs to greece?

Is there some greek people living there? NO, theoretically impossible.

Is it closer to any greek islands or something? NO, much closer to Turkey.

Was there a war between greeks and turksish for that island which greeks won? NO

IT BELONGS TO GREECE BECAUSE INTERNATIONAL POLITICS WANT IT LIKE THAT.

Dont misunderstand me I dont mean that Turkey has the right in modern times to invade this island. I just mean that it is about power and politics but not law.

law is just a mask on this.

Cheers.

I have been told that the greeks want to expand their terrotorial waters to 12 miles as there is a big gas/oil deposit in those locations, true or not i do not know.

Where it permits, Greece can claim 12 miles of territorial waters according to international maritime law. Where this will overlap, then it is split in the middle.

I also do not think that any reasonable and logicall person can compare the shooting down of a Turkish F16 and the murder of a Cypriot citizen climbing a flag pole.

You guys are so ignorant. Take a look at the map.

Some Greek islands are literally on top of Turkey's west coast (eg. Samos). If you let Greece have 12 miles, as someone else said, Turkish citizens will need passports and visas to swim, let alone ships and planes.

It used to be 3 miles but Greece unilaterally increased it to 6 miles. Now, Greece wants to increase it to 12 miles. All Turkey wants is to maintain 6 miles. How's being greedy here, Turkey or Greece?

When will you Greeks ever accept the wrongdoings of your side? Or is it a requirement not to admit Greece's mistakes in order to be a good Greek? Just trying to understand here.

Question should be why Greece armed her land against the Treaty of Laussane, and why he want to expand his territories Treaty of Laussane. It is Greece who want to expand her territories not Turkey. And you still ask questions to Turkey? You should ask them to Greece.

She made an agreement and She should be go with this agreement.
By the way still cant find text of Treaty of Laussane.Anyone know where can I find.

This are the Turkey's objection about this topic.

As I have said just because Greece calls international airspace mine does not make it hers. On the flip side Turkey has been pressuring Greece to take this matter to International Courts and Greece has been reluctant.

Because of Treaty of Laussane.
They are breaking this Treaty.
