Cyprus Bank and overseas money transfer

Postby Spetz » Tue Oct 07, 2008 5:23 pm

Do I need to have an account with a local bank to send money to an overseas account or can I just walk into any bank and ask them to do so without holding an account with them?

I think you can just walk into any bank and do it, but I am not sure. Why don't you go to a bank and ask?

Of course you can. It's called a "International Money Transfer" and the bank will make a small fee off you for the service. Ask, because it could be a percentage.

As a rule of thumb, banks ALWAYS accept your money, it's the other way round they don’t like.

Why not open a bank accout in Cyprus?

Buying and transfering money seemed a mega complicated business to me, mostly the exchange rates between swiss francs, euros and sterling. Think I have at last got it sussed. The cheapest place to transfer funds I have found is GCEN (Global Currency Exchange Network). They dont change a fee and the exchange rate almost mirrors the XE rate. It is well worth looking into.
